An absolute must-see on your South African tours and travels is definitely the world’s oldest diamond mine. The Cullinan Diamond Mine is the site of the discovery of the world’s largest gem quality diamond.
Aptly named, the Cullinan Diamond was 3106 carats, uncut. This diamond was chiseled into 98 individual diamonds including the Great and Lesser Stars of Africa, the 2nd and 3rd largest polished diamonds in the World which, now set in the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom.
The tour begins with a 15 minute video production introducing guests to the history of the mine. Guests are then escorted into the high security premises of the mine where the workings and machinery of the mine are on full display.
The trip continues on to the enormous open cast mine, excavated from Kimberlite rock. This incredible tour concludes at Cullinan Diamonds where guests are invited to view diamond cutting & polishing before browsing the loose diamonds and exquisite jewelry on display.
