Day 1: Arusha (Tanzania)

The gateway to Kilimanjaro, the picturesque town of Arusha sits at the base of Mt. Meru and is known as the Tanzanian safari capital. With a wide range of attractions on offer, including a number of excellent restaurants, bars and markets, Arusha is the perfect spot to spend a few days before heading out on an authentic African safari or a trek up the Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. Further must see items on any Arusha itinerary include the beautiful Arusha National Park, the National Natural History Museum, the coffee plantations and the world famous Laetoli Footprints (a set of footprints of ancient human ancestors dating back several million years)

Upon your arrival at Arusha Airport, where you will be met by a representative from Travel Republic Africa who will accompany you on your transfer to

Arusha Coffee Lodge

Accommodation is on a Bed & Breakfast Basis.

Day 2: Arusha – Machame Camp

After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the lodge you will be met by a representative from Hoopoe Safaris who will accompany you on your transfer to the Machame Gate.

Upon your arrival at the gate your mountaineering crew will help make all the final arrangements prior to the start of your climb up the mighty Kilimanjaro.
This first day of hiking will take you through the lush Afromontane forest towards the Machame Camp.
Along the hike you will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch.

Overnight at Machame Camp is on a Full Board Basis.

Day 3: Machame Camp – Shira Camp

Following breakfast at the camp you will set out on the day’s journey towards the next camp, Shira Camp.

This initial part of the ascent up Kilimanjaro is fairly steep and as you climb you will rapidly gain altitude.

Along the hike you will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch.

As you hike towards Shira Camp you will pass through the Heather and Moorland Zone, where you should encounter the attractive helichrysum and lobelia plant species.

You will also note the various geologic features, such as lava tubes and glacial valleys.

Overnight at Shira Camp is on a Full Board Basis.

Day 4: Shira Camp – Barranco Camp

After breakfast you will start the day’s hike towards the next camp, Barranco Camp. As you ascend further up the slopes of Kilimanjaro you will journey into an alpine desert zone, characterized by harsh sunshine and sub-zero temperatures. At this point you will have the opportunity, if you so wish, to head up to Lava Tower, a massive rock formation formed by lava during Kilimanjaro’s active volcanic days. After witnessing (and having the opportunity to photograph- including a selfie or two of course) this awe-inspiring sight you will make your towards camp for the night.

Along the hike you will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch.

This day’s trek up Kilimanjaro’s slopes will help you acclimatize to the high altitude.

Overnight at Barranco Camp is on a Full Board Basis.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

As you leave camp in the morning you will make your ascent up the famous Barranco Wall, which is an elevation of over 250 metres. As you climb Barranco Wall it’s important to go steadily and make sure of your footing with each step.

The climb up the wall generally takes about 1 or 2 hours, depending on your individual fitness level. As this day is a relatively short day of hiking your lunch will be served at camp.

Should you wish, you can take an afternoon walk with one of your expert guides to take in the magnificent scenery and enjoy the unforgettable photographic opportunities.

Overnight at Karanga Camp is on a Full Board Basis.

Day 6: Kilimanjaro

Day 7: Summit the Roof of Africa

Will see you finally summiting Kilimanjaro. You will depart camp just before midnight on your final ascent up the mighty mountain. As you hike in the darkness towards the summit it’s important to take it easy and make sure of your footing with each step.

With the first rays of sunrise you should be arriving close to the rim of the summit. You will ascend via Stella Point, making your way towards Uhuru Peak, the incredible Roof of the African continent.

Enjoy some well-earned celebrations on top of Mt. Kilimanjaro with the rest of your crew, taking in the breathtaking views and snapping the obligatory mountaintop photos and selfies. Thereafter, you will begin descent towards Mweka camp.

Overnight at Mweka Camp is on a Full Board Basis.

Day 8: Arusha

After breakfast, you will continue on your descent down the slopes of Kilimanjaro.
Around midday and after bidding your final fond farewell to your mountaineering crew, you will be collected and transferred back to Arusha Coffee Lodge.

Day 9: Arusha

After a final delicious breakfast you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport from where you will catch your outbound flight home.
